autumn
wilkins acrylic and mixed media
A lotus flower from Thailand, a ginko leaf off a sidewalk
in Dupont Circle, a cicada buzzing after a 17 year slumber.
In her paintings, Autumn Wilkins infuses these objects with
new character and brings them into being as part of beautiful
dreamlike landscapes.
Using a combination of typography, paint,
canvas, paper and found objects, Wilkins’s paintings
are deeply personal and emotionally expressive. Colors ranging
from crimson and gold to pink and chartreuse, elicit a wide
range of moods and feelings. In her own words, she uses "...colors
that evoke emotions of mystical and reflective dreamlike thoughts,
in pools of color, banded and fused with tiny bits of nature."
Many of her pieces have Asian influences
resulting from her travels to South East Asia and time spent
exploring the Chinatowns of San Francisco and New York.
